History

The Foster Ocular Immunology Society (FOIS), named in honor of Professor C. Stephen Foster of Harvard Medical School for his contribution to the field of ocular immunology and uveitis, was established in 2003, but its history has dated back to the 20th century. In 1995, Dr. Ron Neumann, one of the leading authorities in uveitis and ocular inflammatory diseases in Israel, recognized the need of bringing ophthalmologists who are involved in the care of patients with uveitis and ocular inflammatory disorders together once a year at the annual meetings of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) to discuss the management of complex clinical cases in a less formal setting often present in meetings of other societies or associations. Thus, the precursor of FOIS was born. During the subsequent years, the Society has grown tremendously, with the formal establishment of FOIS in 2003.

Memberships to FOIS are limited to individuals who have completed fellowship under the Direction of Stephen Foster or one of his past fellows as well as to distinguished clinician scientists who are invited to join. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend the FOIS meetings, which occur at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology annual meetings.

Dear AUS Members,

The semi-annual meeting of the American uveitis Society (AUS) will be held at the Chicago Marriott Downtown on Sunday, October 17th 2010 from 8:00pm onwards.

I invite you to submit an abstract for presentation during this meeting.  Please find attached an official Abstract Form, on which the abstract should be submitted. The theme for this year’s meeting is “Corticosteroid sparing immunomodulatory therapy for uveitis”. I welcome abstracts on other subjects as well, but preference will be given to “on theme” abstracts.

The meeting will include a social hour from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in conjunction with a basic and clinical science literature review.  This will be followed by selected abstract presentations.

Abstracts may be sent via email to ssiddique@mersi.com; faxed to 617-621-2953, or mailed to:

C. Stephen Foster, MD, FACS

C/o Sana S. Siddique

The deadline for receiving abstracts is by EOB on Friday, August 27th 2010.

Selected presenters will have: 7-minutes for presentation and 3-minute Q&A.  All PowerPoint presentations must be sent to Sana S. Siddique at ssiddique@mersi.com by Thursday, October 7th 2010 by 5pm.  At this time all presentations will be loaded onto one computer and brought to the meeting.  Please note that this means you will not be able to make changes to your presentation during the meeting, nor will you be allowed to connect your computer to the LCD projector. If a final version of your presentation is not received by the deadline, it will not be included in the meeting.

Thank you and I look forward to receiving your submissions.  Please feel free to forward this notice to colleagues and all those interested in participating.

Sincerely,
